All auditions are held at Kelowna Actors Studio, 1379 Ellis St. (across from the Kelowna Public Library) and are by APPOINTMENT ONLY.
HOW TO BOOK AN AUDITION
Anyone interested in auditioning for THE LITTLE MERMAID must complete an online submission. Once your submission is received we will contact you with an audition day & time.
Auditions generally fill up and require a waiting list so REGISTER EARLY!
WHO CAN AUDITION
All body types, races, and ethnicities are welcome and encouraged to audition. Please review the casting list below to see what we’re looking for.
WHAT TO PREPARE FOR YOUR AUDITION
- A 1-minute monologue of your choice (from a play or musical). Please note that due to time constraints you may not get to finish your monologue.
- You will be required to sing 16 bars of music from a Broadway song that showcases your vocal range at its best. Please bring sheet music in the correct key as a pianist will be provided and in a binder.
(No singing without accompaniment or with vocal tracks)
- Please note that vocal range tests may be conducted at this time.
DO PERFORMERS GET PAID?
YES! Kelowna Actors Studio pays all of our performers. Rehearsal/Performance pay rates are dependant on a few factors and in some cases negotiated at the time of offer.
Those selected for a call back will be told after their audition as call backs are the following day. You will be able to download a link with the songs and sides required for the full day call back.
YOU MUST BE IN ATTENDANCE AT THE CALL BACK TO BE CONSIDERED
Saturday, January 26 11:00am to 10:00pm
Note: A short group movement/dance exercise will be required at the call backs. Please wear or bring footwear you can easily move & dance in. Bring your water bottle and a snack since some of you will be there for the entire day (possibly) - Also please mention if you rollerblade, roller-skate or have used heelies.
Please note the rehearsal process starts approximately 8 weeks prior to a show opening with rehearsals 3 to 5 times per week depending on the role you receive.
Typically, rehearsals are from 6:30pm to 10:30pm on weekdays and from 10:00am to 6:00pm on weekends (We sometimes start later) .
Mermaid runs for 2 weeks from Thursday to Sunday and the following week Tuesday to Saturday at 7:30pm with a 6:30pm call time. There are Saturday matinees at 1:00pm (call time Noon) Please note that Sunday matinees may be added.

Ariel: Female, 18-30 yrs. in appearance
A mermaid and King Triton's youngest daughter. She is obsessed with everything about the human world, and dreams of becoming a part of life above the water. Hardheaded, naive, and emotional, but also kind hearted.. Mezzo Soprano Ab4 - E5
Prince Eric: Male, 18-30 yrs. in appearance
A human monarch who has no interest of taking the crown. A handsome, affable lad with a buoyant, adventurous nature. After Ariel saves his life, he becomes obsessed with finding her and hearing her voice once more.. Tenor B3-F#4
Grimsby: Male 30-60 yrs. in appearance
Prince Eric's British guardian. Droll, stuffy, and constantly urging Eric towards his royal duties, specifically marriage. Will also appear in Ensemble. Baritone/Tenor C3-C4
Flounder: Boy or Girl, 11-16 yrs. in appearance
A fish and smitten with Ariel, his best friend. Rambunctious but cautious, fearful of the dangers that lurk in and above the water.. Tenor A3 - G4
Scuttle Male or Female, 20-50 yrs. in appearance
A disheveled seagull and expert in human artifacts. Loudmouthed, optimistic, and a bit ignorant, despite his supposed expertise. Will also appear in the Ensemble. Tenor C3 -G4
King Triton: Male, 30-50 yrs. in appearance
King of the Sea and Ariel's father. Beneath his imposing presence and commanding nature lurks a harried single father who will do anything to protect his daughters. The death of his wife has also given him an irrational fear of humans. Will also appear in the Ensemble. Baritone Ab3-F4
Sebastian: Male, 20-45 yrs. in appearance
A crab and advisor to King Triton. A musical virtuoso who is constantly distraught from keeping after Ariel. Despite his paranoia, he can't bring himself to stand in Ariel's way. Caribbean Accent. Tenor Bb3-C5
Flotsam and Jetsam: Male or Female, 15-40 yrs. in appearance
Eels and Ursula's lackeys. Oily and spineless, they will say anything you want or need to hear. Both roles require a seamless transition between head voice and chest voice. Strong control of falsetto range and dynamic contrast. Alto/Tenor B3-C5
Chef Louis: Male, 20-70 yrs. in appearance
The French palace chef, diabolical and violent. A culinary perfectionist with an affinity for blades, seafood in particular. Exaggerated French accent, will also be in the ensemble.
Mersisters: Female, 16-35 yrs. in appearance
Ariel’s sisters (Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, Allana)
