A Streetcar Named Desire-Tennessee Williams
Set in the French Quarter of New Orleans during the restless years following World War Two,  A Streetcar Named Desire is the story of Blanche DuBois, a weak and disturbed woman on a desperate prowl for someplace in the world to call her own. After losing their ancestral home, Belle Reve, Blanche shows up at the doorstep of her sister, Stella. However, Blanche’s snobbery wins her the instant dislike of Stella’s husband. (Louisiana accents required)

Character Descriptions Blanche Dubois (F, 30-40) Intelligent and fragile, preferring illusion over reality. Vain and fearful of losing her looks. Presenting herself as pure, innocent and ladylike, she hides a disreputable past, including a marriage which ended tragically. She is a flirt, a chatterbox and a tease. She secretly drinks. She has been described by the playwright as like a moth, fluttering around a light. An English teacher, forced to flee after a scandal involving a student.
Stella Kowalski (F, 23-30) Intelligent, capable, pragmatic and realistic, she is Blanche’s younger sister, opposite in personality and worldview. Attractive without relying on makeup, hair and clothes, she is comfortable in her own skin, frank and honest with herself and with others. Stanley loves her and may even respect her, in his fashion. Their relationship is frankly sexual, volatile and passionate; they are well matched. Housewife, soon to be mother.
Stanley Kowalski (M, 27-40) Uneducated, though street-smart and intuitive. Hyper-masculine and brutish. Handsome and physically imposing, with an undeniable and obvious sexuality. A natural leader, popular with men and attractive to women. Passionately in love with Stella. Uncomplicated and pragmatic, with no patience for pretense or hypocrisy. Former Military, current factory worker.
Harold “Mitch” Mitchell (M, 27-50) Stanley’s co-worker and friend. Gullible, easily led, Momma’s boy. Lives with his terminally ill mother. Dazzled and taken in by Blanche at first, wounded and hurt when he learns of her duplicity. Kind, gentle and loyal. Poker buddy.
Eunice Hubell (F, 25-40) Landlady and friend to Stella, lives upstairs with husband Steve.
Steve Hubell (M, 25-40) Landlord and friend to Stanley, lives upstairs with wife Eunice. Poker buddy.
Pablo Gonzales (M, 25-40) Hispanic, co-worker of Stanley, poker buddy.
A Young Man (M, 17-28) Newspaper delivery boy. Attractive and innocent. The type of very young man Blanche has been attracted to in the past.
A Doctor (M, 35-75) Sent from asylum to pick up Blanche. Sensitive and astute, knows how to relate to Blanche.
A Nurse (F, 30-70) Sent from asylum to pick up Blanche; gruff, overly-officious, ungentle. (will be doubled with Mexican Woman)
A Mexican Woman (F, 30-70) Flower vendor.
