South Pacific Opens to Standing O!

Kelowna Actors Studio opened South Pacific to a standing ovation on Thursday night and for a good reason -- they have once again put together a rock solid cast, Gwen Plitt sparkles as Nurse Nellie and Mark Sorestad nearly steals the show as Luther Billis. The singing is sensational, especially the big group numbers, and the set and costumes also work well.

From the moment the navy guys, led by Billis, jump on the the stage in the second scene, the stage vibrates with life and as I looked around, the faces I could see in the audience were all smiling.
The actor who I was most proud of was Norene Morrow. Morrow has always had a spectacular voice, but when she first began appearing in KAS musicals, her acting talents had not yet matured. Seeing her in this role made my heart sing. She’s truly wonderful as charismatic, spunky Bloody Mary. She truly shines in this production.
My heart wasn’t the thing singing by the end of the show. I think many left the building with these timeless songs stuck in their head - songs like I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair, There Ain’t Nothin’ Like a Dame, Some Enchanted Evening and (I’m in Love With) A Wonderful Guy.
